Lim Bo Seng; War Hero

Lim Bo Seng is a war hero who served Chung Cheng High School Main as the first school supervisor. He participated in the anti-Japanese activities and joined Force 136 on the 11th February 1942.He died at the age of 35 on the 29th June 1944 as he was captured by the Japanese from March to April of 1944. He's refusal to betray Force 136 by leaking out informations about the force was led to his severe tortures and later,death. This is a photo of Lim Bo Seng , our war hero which is also our school's first school supervisior.

Chiang Kai Shek

Chung Cheng High Main was named after Chiang Kai Shek, the President of Republic of China from the year 1948 to 1975. Chiang Kai Shek took over as leader of KMT when Sun died in 1925. he led the Northern Expedition to unify the country in 1926 and thus, making him the nominal leader of China.

Aw Boon Haw

                                Aw Boon Haw ( 1882 – 1954 )was a Burmese Chinese entrepreneur and philanthropist known for introducing Tiger Balm. He was the son of Aw Chu Kin, a Hakka herbalist, with his ancestral home in Fujian Province, China. Our school was opened in 1939 at Kim Yan Road by Aw Bon Haw and other businessman. It started as an all-boys school but became a co-ed after World War II. Our school now has a branch school, known as Chung Cheng High School
(Yishun).It is located at Yishun St.61.Chung Cheng High(Main) is located at 40-56 Goodman Road. Both schools are affiliated to Nanyang Junior College.

Dr Chuang Chu Lin(Zhuang Zhu Lin)
  • In 1938, he became the principal of Chung Cheng Secondary and in 1960 he was a vie-principal at Nanyang University.
  • As he was devoted in education, he was one of the rare chinese in Singapore that works in the education industry
  • Under a friend's persuasion, Xie Rong Xi agreeday for his trip back to Singapore to set up Chung Cheng Secondary School. With Xie Rong Xi's financial support and his qualifications, he was elected to be the first principal of Chung Cheng.
  • Overseas chinese, under the leadership of Tan Kah Kee, raised money and put in energy into the anti-japanese sentiment. Zhuang Zhu Lin, together with teachers and students, supporting them in patriotic activities.
  • Chung Cheng had become the vanguard of the anti-japanese activities.
  • However, a member of the Blueshirts spread rumors that Zhuang Zhu Lin was surrounded by leftist teachers and students. They planned to strike in the opening ceremony of 1940 students protests against Zhuang Zhu Lin.He was notified in advanced but only laughed.
  • However, the group of people launched the attack and sealed the school while forcing Zhuang Zhu Lin to sign the resignation letter. Fortunately, he refused to sign the letter and he got support by the many teachers and students who still supported him.
  • The controversy led to the reorganisation of the Board with Xie Rong Xi as chairman. Since then, the school made some adjustments like expanding the lineup of teachers and greatly improving the level of teaching.
  • During the japanese occupation, the school was closed and after the japanese surrendered, Zhuang Zhu Lin restarted the school with only 300 students. It is only until 1956, the number of students increased to 5500 and became the biggest secondary school in Southeeast Asia.
  • In order to raise enough funds to build the school, he encouraged everyone to pay $10 to the school building fund.
  • After many years of construction, not only its scale to meet the needs of teaching and activity, it has became a new landscape in Singapore.
Lim Bo Seng was the school's first superintendant and he was a war hero who joined Force 136 as a British led spy and sabotage organisation.
